Frequently Asked Questions.

Whats the difference between hemp bedding and other beddings materials?

Our hemp beddings absorbency rate is 400%, which is a great deal more absorbent than pine shavings or straw. It also controls odor, so you don't have to constantly be sniffing that strong ammonia smell. But one of the most key characteristics of our bedding is that it is virtually dust free. There are multiple dust extractors it has to go through while processing, which makes our bedding an incredible alternative for animals with sensitive respiratory systems.

Is hemp the same as marijuana?

The short answer is, while it’s considered the same species of plant its not the same. Hemp is a cannabis plant that contains 0.3% or less THC, while marijuana is a cannabis plant that contains more than 0.3% THC.

Is hemp bedding more economical?

Yes. The most efficient and economical way to use hemp bedding is with a deep litter methods. This allows you to use ⅓ to ¼ of product compared to other bedding options. For example, if your coop is 8x5 with 10 chickens you're likely going through around 2 bales of shavings every couple of weeks. Whereas with hemp bedding you're looking at ⅓ of a bale every 2-3 weeks. Same idea with horses. If you're cleaning out your stalls every 2 or 3 days and using 2-4 bales of pine shavings every time, your cost is going to be much less with hemp bedding when you calculate it on an annual basis. This is because you're only using a bale a week after you've set your base.

Is your bedding compostable?

Yes, absolutely! In fact, our bedding can compost in 4-6 months. It also has a PH of 7 (neutral) so its very convenient when using in your garden beds or as mulch for your plants.

Is the hemp organic?

Short answer, technically not. BUT let me explain why. Hemp is incredibly resistant to disease and doesn’t attract insects like many plants do. Therefore hemp farmers don’t have the need to spray pesticides or herbicides on the crop. To do so would be an incredible waste of money on the farmers part.

How many bales of hemp bedding does a horse require in a year?

This is going to completely depend on your set up and how much time your horse spends outside. But the general average is between 40 and 50 bales a year. We also offer bulk pricing for folks who are purchasing for larger animals like horses, pigs, goats, etc.
